Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a mountain sightseeing route in the Northern Japan Alps where visitors can traverse by various means of transportation including cablecars, electric buses and a ropeway. The route is 37.2 km long and a difference in elevation is 1,975 meters. The Alpine Route goes through many scenic sites and walking trails such as during different seasons of the year. Visitors can enjoy nature observation and bird watching while walking the route, which traverses the Chūbu-Sangaku National Park. The Alpine route opens from mid-April until the end of November.

Snow Otani Walk
The Tateyama Murodo Plain where is located 2,450 meters above sea level, is famous for heavy snowfall during winter. At the Otani area, heavy snowfall creates a corridor of snow like wall rising sometimes up to 20 meters high (14 meters high this year according to the report). The Snow Walls are carved out by a bulldozer, equipped with both a GPS and a mobile satellite phone. Visitors can walk along the snow wall from April to June (until June 25 for 2024). The snow walls stand up vertically like cliffs. The view is truly breathtaking.
The Alpine Route is very crowded during the high season from the end of April to the beginning of May, summer vacation period, and autumn leaves season.
