What is Bunraku?
Bunraku is a traditional form of Japanese puppet theatre that was founded in Osaka in the 17th century. It is performed by a Syamisen player, puppeteers, and a chanter. The puppeteers show the story visually while the chanter tells the story by voice. The puppets used in Bunraku are highly detailed and conducted by puppeteers who are visible onstage, wearing black robes.
The stories performed in Bunraku are usually historical dramas, love stories, or tragedies. Bunraku performances are known for their emotional depth, intricate puppetry techniques, and rich cultural heritage.
